Vancouver

Chief Technology Officer

Founded in 1982, Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel is a prominent, employee-owned asset manager that serves institutional and private clients across Canada. Through our value orientation and ‘quiet money’ philosophy, we have grown from $3 to $22.5 billion in assets under management and expanded from our BC roots to a national platform with over 100 employees in offices in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto. Steadfast in our investment discipline, we focus on one thing, and we do it exceptionally well: identifying long-term, value-oriented investment opportunities. Built around this investment philosophy, the firm has had incredible success hiring and retaining some of the top investment professionals in the industry and has developed a culture of high integrity, discipline, and performance.

As an employee-owned investment firm, Leith Wheeler has an advantage over larger asset managers in that we have the flexibility to meet the needs of specific client groups such as pensions, foundations and endowments for hospitals, schools, and other not-for-profits, and Indigenous communities, and align their goals with ours. We have also made our mark on the private client market which continues to evolve and demand higher levels of bespoke service. As we continue to grow our assets across both institutional and private clients, we also have ambitions to diversify our product offering from equity and fixed-income funds and increasingly offer exposure to alternative asset classes. Leith Wheeler is an ambitious, sought-after investor that is on a clear path to further growth and innovation.

Job Description:

With a client-focused mission, we are continuously looking for ways to meet evolving client expectations, and leadership acknowledges that there is an opportunity to enhance client experiences through more advanced and scalable front and back-end technologies. Teams across the firm also see opportunity areas for technologies that streamline repeated processes such as client/custodial/financial reporting and other internally facing functions. To deliver on these initiatives, the firm must develop a robust technology vision and the roadmap for executing on the vision in support of the changing demands of both the clients and the industry. To lead the firm through this transformation Leith Wheeler has initiated a search to recruit a Chief Technology Officer (“CTO”), based in the Vancouver office, who can raise the bar of technology and navigate the organization through significant change management.

As such, the CTO will be given the mandate to create and drive a strategy to transform Leith Wheeler into a technologically progressive asset manager with the tools, innovation, and infrastructure to operate in a dynamic and increasingly digital-forward industry. The CTO will be responsible for building consensus across the leadership team and user groups on technology investments and initiatives. They will also be responsible for the architecture and development of a best-in-class technology team capable of delivering on the needs of internal and external client groups.

Job Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, authentic and approachable leader who has the interpersonal skills to work within an employee-owned firm. They have a track record of success as a technology leader who has effectively driven change within an asset management, investment bank or investment services business. They have experience working in a boutique environment where the demands of the role require both strategic and tactical attention.
