Data Lead

Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd. Is an employee-owned firm headquartered in Vancouver with offices in Calgary and Toronto.  We manage over $23 billion of assets on behalf of pension, foundation, corporate, Aboriginal, and individual clients across Canada.

We are looking for a Data Lead to develop and support application solutions, and interface with internal clients through operational and development cycles. The incumbent plays an important role in front office risk monitoring and reporting systems (order management system) and working with queries to extract information from databases for various screening/valuation/etc. tasks/reports.

Reporting to the CTO, this incumbent will be required to work closely with the analysts in fixed income, equity teams, business analysts, developers, and traders.

Job Description:

  • Own the firm’s data: market data, transaction data and operational data across all asset classes
  • Analyze market data requirements for a given asset class, identify relevant data sources, and create optimum data flows
  • Document market data onboarding specifications and coordinate delivery with the technology team
  • Work with market data consumer applications to define and document their requirements
  • Work with stakeholders to understand and gather requirements; produce business specifications, functional design, and associated documentation
  • Validate solution implementations to meet business and functional requirements
  • Ensure
    • Adherence to and develop best practices supporting Client's Project Management Standards
    • Business reporting needs are met with the most elegant and timely technology solutions
    • Proper development life cycle is followed with artifacts to support Internal Audit and any inquiries
    • Post-implementation support and investigation of issues

Job Qualifications:

  • University degree or college certification in Finance, Business, or Information Systems
  • 10+ years' experience working with Market data across asset classes viz. Equities and Fixed Income; and data elements viz. securities, rates, FX
  • Practical and detailed knowledge of investment securities, standards, security master, identifiers, quotes, prices and volume across asset classes
  • Experience working with known market data vendors like Reuters, Bloomberg, etc. is a must
  • Excellent documentation, analytical and process-based skills to produce process flow diagrams, business modelling, and functional design
  • front, Middle, and Back Office exposure, or having worked at a Bond desk will be extremely valuable
  • Basic knowledge of databases and SQL is required
  • Experience with databases, data mapping, and query & reporting tools
  • Experience with systems integrations involving trades, messaging protocols and mapping of attributes; knowledge of regulatory requirements.
