Human Resources Manager

Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd. is an independent, employee-owned, Vancouver-based investment counsel managing over $22 billion in assets on behalf of pension, not-for-profit, First Nations, corporate and individual clients across Canada.

Job Description:

The Human Resources Manager will coordinate Leith Wheeler’s human resource management activities and provide leadership, direction and services to employees, managers, and the Management Committee. The Human Resources Manager will identify and partner with external consultants as required to deliver programs and implement best practices in the areas of selection and recruitment, organizational planning and job design, policy development, compensation and benefits, employee relations, learning and development, and performance management. The individual in this role must demonstrate the highest level of confidentiality, discretion and integrity. The role will have a high degree of autonomy and be empowered to make decisions and act. Initially, the Human Resources Manager will report to the Board and the CEO with additional direction provided from the firm’s HR Working Group, which is comprised of a member of the Leith Wheeler board, the CEO, CFO, and representatives from business areas.  

The successful candidate will need to successfully integrate into a strong and unique corporate culture, identify needs through stakeholder consultation, develop culturally aligned solutions, and effect positive change to enhance the organization’s ability to support its people.

Job Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following: 

  • At least 5 years of experience working in Human Resources, preferably in the investment or financial services industry or an employee-owned firm
  • A high level of achievement in their area(s) of expertise
  • A CPHR designation or equivalent, or other demonstrated commitment to education and professional development in the field of Human Resources
  • Substantial experience in at least two of the following areas:
    • Learning & Development
    • Compensation & Benefits
    • Recruiting & Hiring
  • Well-honed skills and experience in Employee Relations
  • A track record of successfully integrating into new corporate cultures, identifying needs through stakeholder consultation, developing culturally aligned solutions, and effecting positive change to support the organizational culture.
  • Outstanding communication ability, including listening, writing and editing skills
  • Technical capability: able to leverage maximum capabilities of HR Information Systems 
  • Ability to build consensus, address stakeholder concerns, and lead a team of peers and seniors
