Manager, Mutual Funds and Financial Reporting

Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd. is an employee-owned investment counsel based in Vancouver.  We manage over $20 billion of assets on behalf of pension, foundation, corporate and individual clients across Canada.

Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd. is looking for an individual to join its Mutual Fund Operations Team, reporting directly to the Vice President, Finance and Operations. The ideal candidate should be familiar with the Canadian mutual fund environment and is proficient in mutual fund operations encompassing fund financial reporting, valuation and transfer agency records.  The candidate should be assertive, detail-oriented, a problem solver, and is able to work with deadlines. As a member of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for financial statements and performance calculations including assisting the other reporting such as Global Investment Performance Standards “GIPS” verification by our external auditors.

Job Description:

  • Supervision of mutual fund department
  • Ensure fund valuations and transfer agency are performed correctly and accurately
  • Preparation and overseeing of annual & semi annual financial statements, MRFP, Fund Facts, and filing
  • Work with legal counsel with annual renewal of simplified prospectus and annual information form
  • Attend IRC meetings
  • Oversee quarterly/ monthly income distributions for our Investment Funds
  • Assist with developing and maintaining shareholder recordkeeping within the transfer agency application
  • Assist with the review and implementation of the conversion plan for possible outsourcing of some of the Mutual Fund functions as required
  • Ensure fund operations are prepared for new Investment Fund launches as part of the new product strategies
  • Ongoing review of regulation ensuring that funds are compliant (including prospectus renewals)
  • Assist in the development, implementation and oversight of firm GIPS audit and policies, processes and procedures.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and oversight of firm GIPS audit and policies, processes and procedures as they relate to Canadian Securities Acts and Regulations, AML, FATCA/CRS rules for the Leith Wheeler Investment Funds.
  • Coordinate audit and tax work performed by external audit service provider

Job Qualifications:

The preferred applicant will be well versed in the Canadian Mutual fund accounting and regulatory environment with a minimum of 5 years of related experience in Financial Services.  Completion of the Canadian Securities Course and Chartered Financial Analyst program is a major asset. Candidates should have experience in various portfolio management applications with a focus on NAVing and transfer agency components), be proficient with Microsoft Office suite of programs Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work independently while also providing support to various business units.
