Mutual Funds Manager

Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd. Is an employee-owned firm, headquartered in Vancouver with offices in Calgary and Toronto. We manage over $30 billion of assets on behalf of pension, foundation, corporate, Aboriginal, and individual clients across Canada.

We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Mutual Fund Manager to lead the management of mutual fund portfolios for the firm. The ideal candidate should be familiar with the Canadian mutual fund environment and be proficient in mutual fund operations encompassing fund financial reporting, valuation and transfer agency records. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Operations, and leading a 7-9 member-team, this position will appeal to someone who is passionate about client service, zealous in their pursuit of operational efficiency, and comfortable working in a team-based environment.

Job Description:

  • Ensure fund valuations and transfer agency are performed correctly and accurately
  • Prepare and oversee annual & semi-annual financial statements, MRFP, Fund Facts, and filing
  • Work with legal counsel with annual renewal of simplified prospectus and annual information form
  • Oversee quarterly/ monthly income distributions for our Investment Funds
  • Prepare for new launches, changes, or updates to fund offerings
  • Ongoing review of regulation ensuring that funds are compliant (including prospectus renewals)
  • Assist in the development, implementation and oversight of firm’s audits, policies, processes and procedures as they relate to Canadian Securities Acts and Regulations, AML, FATCA/CRS rules for the Leith Wheeler Investment Funds
  • Coordinate audit and tax work of investment and pooled funds, performed by external audit service provider
  • Manage service provider relationships - audit, tax, fund accounting, unitholder recordkeeping, etc.
  • Work closely with internal departments to align fund operations with business objectives
  • Manage a team of 7-9 members

Job Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years’ experience in mutual fund accounting, with at least 3 years managing a team
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian capital markets, mutual fund structures, and regulatory frameworks
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course and Chartered Financial Analyst program is a major asset
  • Solid experience in various portfolio management applications with a focus on NAVing and transfer agency components
